Peter Carlisle, Mayor-elect of the City and County of Honolulu, won the mayoral position in the 2010 primary election, defeating three other candidates including acting Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell. Carlisle won the special election to replace Mufi Hannemann who left to run for Governor of Hawai'i.
Carlisle was the Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu from 1996, when he was first elected, until July 2010 when he resigned to run for the Mayoral position.
