Diane 'Mele' Carroll (born May 9, 1964), a member of the Democratic Party, was sworn in on February 6, 2005, to replace Sol Kahoohalahala in the Hawaii State House of Representatives of the Hawaii State Legislature to represent the 13th representative district. The 13th district includes the islands of Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe and the area of East Maui. Representative Carroll was appointed by Governor Lingle to the seat after Kahoohalahala accepted the position of executive director of the state Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission. Kahoohalahala supported Carroll's selection to succeed him. Kahoohalahala had been reelected in the 2004 elections and resigned on January 6, 2005.

Mele Carroll had been Maui Mayor Alan M. Arakawa's Executive Assistant and Chief Legislative Liaison to the Hawaii State Legislature concentrating on health-related topics and issues affecting East Maui, Lanai and Molokai. Mele worked with the Lt. Goveror's Office as the Substance & Drug Abuse Liason for Maui County. She also worked with the State Department of Health (DOH), State Health Planning Department (SHPDA), health providers, Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Hawaii Systems Corporation, West Maui Primary Urgent Care group, and others on behalf of the mayor. Carroll helped to secure the new air ambulance for Maui County and wrote a federal grant to obtain $2 million toward the purchase of land at historic Muolea Point in East Maui.

Before working for Mayor Arakawa, Carroll worked as Chief of Staff for Democrat Kalani English for six years, while English served as a Maui County Council member and later as state senator for the 6th District.

She ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Robert Carroll (no relation) for the East Maui seat on the County Council in the 2004 elections.

Mele Carroll, a native Hawaiian, is a graduate of James Campbell High School and majored in Business Administration at the University of Hawaii - Hilo. Carroll is married to Warren Kalei Carroll of Napili, Maui.
