University of Iowa Hospital

From dKosopedia

The University of Iowa Hospital is located in Iowa City, Iowa, next to the University of Iowa. It reports to the Iowa Board of Regents. The hospital also runs a network of clinics, some of which have been purchased from private owners using public money.

The hospital's nurses are represented by SEIU Local 199. They voted to organize in 1999, despite the fact that the CEO of the time had hired armed guards to intimidate them.

The hospital is engaged in a long-running financial dispute with Wellmark, the state's largest health insurance company. This has led to the resignation of several regents, and one President of the University of Iowa, David Skorton.

The hospital's current CEO is Donna Katen-Bahensky, who came to Iowa in August 2002.
