John W. Colloton
From dKosopedia
John W. Colloton was the CEO of the University of Iowa Hospital from 1971 to 1993. He led a $500 Million capital campaign from 1976-2005. He came back from retirement to serve as the Vice President of Statewide Health Services before retiring again and becoming Director Emeritus in 2001. He currently has a university supplied office, secretary, email and priveleged parking. He is also on the Board of Directors of Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the state's largest health insurer. He has been on the Wellmark Board since 1974, and he was the Chairman from 1993-2000. Mr. Colloton's dual roles seem to represent an insurmountable conflict of interest, especially in light of recent controversies at the Iowa Board of Regents.
Colloton was born in 1931, and he grew up in a poor family, but put himself through college. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, and served in the U.S. Army. Colloton has reportedly been a generous donor to the hospital's fundraising campaign.
