Steve Salyer

Steve Salyer, a Republican, was the opponent of Democrat Carlos "Charlie" Uresti in House District 118 in the Texas House of Representatives in 2004. He lost the race by 5,991 votes or 13.60% of the electorate.

Uresti is now going to challenge District 19 Sen. Frank Madla in the March 2006 Democratic primary, which leaves the seat open with no obvious contenders.

Salyer, is a native of Ohio and currently works as physician's assistant, has filed for the seat. His opponents in the GOP primary are George Antuna, a former regional staffer for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Lujan a career EMT and AFL-CIO member.
