Mendacity

Mendacity refers to the tendency to lie. Lying may be either instrumental or pathological.

Some politicians and political acitvists are given to lying. Some religious traditions consider deception in a good cause to be good. For example, Taqeeyah, or lying to non-Muslims, is honored in Shi'a Islam.
