LaMetta Wynn is the mayor of Clinton, Iowa. Although she is a registered Republican, the mayoral post is considered to be non-partisan.
She ran for the Iowa Senate 13th District seat in 2006, but lost to the incumbent Sen. Roger Stewart, D-Preston.
Wynn, 72, was first elected mayor in 1995, and was the first black woman elected mayor in Iowa. Her current term expires in 2007. She said she would continue to serve as mayor through the election, and would resign if elected. Wynn also has experience on the state level, serving on the Vision Iowa Board, the executive board of the Iowa League of Cities and as chair of the Iowa Commission on the Status of African-Americans. She also served 12 years on the Clinton School Board, and worked as a registered nurse.
