Frank F. Fasi

Frank Francis Fasi, (b.August 27, 1920 - February 3, 2010), served as the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu from 1969 to 1981 and from 1985 to 1995. Fasi lost the mayorship to Eileen Anderson in 1980. Fasi defeated Anderson in 1984 and was succeeded by Jeremy Harris in 1995. Fasi was also a former territorial senator and city councilman.

Early Years
Fasi was born in Hartford, Connecticut and attended Trinity College. Following the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Fasi enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific. After his tour of duty in 1944, Fasi settled in Honolulu where he opened his own contracting, building demolition and salvage company.
Mayoral Accomplishments
- pushed for the Aloha Stadium
- opened the Neal S. Blaisdell Center
- transformed Honolulu's private bus system into a public system -- "TheBus"
- created Satellite City Hall system
- started the elected neighborhood board system
- pushed for H-power, a waste-to-energy plant
- transformed the Honolulu Civic Center to be more park-like
Post Mayoral Politics
Fasi was a member of the Hawaii Democratic Party until 1984, when he was persuaded by D. G. Anderson to join the Hawaii Republican Party. In 1994, Fasi established the Best Party of Hawaii and ran for Governor of Hawai'i against Republican Patricia Saiki and Democrat Benjamin J. Cayetano. Fasi lost but his party lives on as the Aloha Aina Party of Hawaii with which it merged in 1997.
