Dwight Takamine (born Jan. 29, 1953) is a member of the Democratic Party, and presently the Director of the Hawaii State Department of Labor in the Abercrombie administration. Takamine is a former senator representing the 1st Senatorial District in the Hawaii State Senate of the Hawaii State Legislature from 2008 to 2010. The 1st District includes the Hilo, Honoka'a, Laupahoehoe, Hamakua, Waiakea Uka, Keaukaha and Waimea areas of the island of Hawaii in the state of Hawaii.
Takamine, prior to being in the Senate, was a Hawaii State Representative representing the 1st Representative district from 1987 to 2007. Dwight's father, Yoshito Takamine had held the seat prior to 1987.
Takamine was born in the plantation community of Honokaa on the island of Hawaii on January 29, 1953, the eldest of five children.
He is a graduate of Honokaa High School. He has a BA degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii and a JD degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
By profession, Takamine is an attorney.
