From dKosopedia
Charles Djou, a member of the Republican Party, is the former U.S. Representative from Hawaii's 1st congressional district and Honolulu city councilmember. In his short almost six month term in Congress, Djou voted along party lines. In November of 2010, Rep. Djou lost reelection to former state Senator Colleen Hanabusa.
Rep. Djou won the first congressional district special election on May 22, 2010, defeating among 19 other candidates for the seat, Colleen Hanabusa and Ed Case . The seat has been vacated by former Rep. Neil Abercrombie in his bid for the Hawaii governorship. (see Hawaii U.S. House district 1 special election, 2010)
Djou, a former councilmember of the Honolulu City Council represented the area from Waikiki to Hawaii Kai. He was first elected to the Council in 2002.
When Djou left the Honolulu City Council, he was serving as the Chairman of the Zoning Committee, Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee and was a member of the Executive Matters, Intergovermental Affairs and the Public Health, Safety & Welfare committees.
Before entering the City Council, Djou served in the Hawaii State House where he was the Republican Floor Leader.

Education
Djou has spent much of his life in Hawaii but received most of his education on the mainland. After graduating from Punahou School he earned both a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, magna cum laude with distinction. Djou earned his law degree from the University of Southern California law school.
Community service
Like almost any politician Djou can be described as an "active member of the community." However he cannot be described as having accepted any political risks by joining "controversial" organizations like those that fight for the despised or powerless. Instead Djou has served on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association and is a former member of the Neighborhood Board. Djou is a member of the Young Business Roundtable, the Rotary Club, and the Hawaii Telecommunications Association. He is also a member of the Hawaii Republican Party, for which he previously served as Vice Chair. All nice and safe.
Personal life
Djou is married to Stacey Kawasaki Djou and together they have three children. His' surname "Djou" is a misspelled French translation of his Chinese surname "Zhou."
