Bill White

From dKosopedia

Bill White is the Mayor of Houston, Texas.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2006, White ordered a halt the city's health department to stop giving free flu shots at the polls in poorer Black and Hispanic neighborhoods in the face of conservative Republican complaints. Health department officials said they were only trying to reach people in these medically underserved communities. Harris County Republican Chairman Jared Woodfill is quoted as saying, "I think the program was completely motivated by a plan to turn out Democratic voters." Houston Chronicle. November 2, 2006. News Report

The complaints from conservative Republicans appear to be part of the larger national Republican effort to suppress voter turnout. Some of the elderly poor may die as a consequence.
