Attorney General of Hawaii

The Attorney General of Hawaii is the chief legal and law enforcement officer of the State of Hawaii. The Attorney General, through the almost 700 employees of the Department of the Attorney General, provides legal and other services to the State, including the agencies, officers, and employees of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of Hawaii government. The Attorney General prosecutes criminal violations of the Hawaii Revised Statutes. The Attorney General also represents the State and its citizens in affirmative actions seeking to protect the rights and interests of the people of Hawaii. Included within the Department is the Child Support Enforcement Agency, which enforces the right of every child to financial support from both parents. [1]
The Attorney General becomes acting governor upon the absence of both the Governor of Hawaii and Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii from the state.
