William Krause

William Krause is a businessman in Des Moines, Iowa, and a major financial donor to Republican candidates. Although he grew up very poor, he became wealthy, and he is a generous donor to educational causes.

His primary business is the Kum & Go chain of convenience stores, but he also owns Royal Financial, which markets video lottery machines to gas stations and other convenience stores. In Jan. 2006, he publicly withdrew his support from gubernatorial candidate Jim Nussle, becase he called for the state to remove all of its video lottery machines.

In 2005, Krause made the news when alcoholic beverages were discovered in his private skybox at the University of Iowa football stadium. The University President changed the stadium's rules to allow Krause and other wealthy donors to continue drinking in their skyboxes, even though alcohol was not allowed in the stands.

His son, Kyle Krause runs most of his businesses day-to-day.
