William E. Conway, Jr.

William E. Conway, Jr. is one of three founders and, since 1987, a Managing Director, of the Carlyle Group. Mr. Conway’s primary responsibilities include serving as chairman of Carlyle's investment committees and head of the U.S. Buyout Group. The U.S. Buyout Group focuses primarily on transactions in the aerospace & defense, automotive, consumer & industrial, healthcare, technology & business services, telecommunications & media, and transportation sectors. Prior to forming Carlyle in 1987, Mr. Conway was a Vice President and Treasurer of MCI Communications Corporation from 1981 to 1984. [[2] From 1984 until 1987, Mr. Conway served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MCI. [3] While at MCI, Mr. Conway arranged several billion dollars of debt and equity financing, both in the public and private financial markets, and negotiated MCI's significant acquisitions and divestitures. [[4]]

Prior to joining MCI, Mr. Conway served in a variety of positions for almost ten years with The First National Bank of Chicago in the areas of corporate finance, commercial lending, workout loans and general management. [5]

Education

Mr. Conway received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his M.B.A. in finance from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business. [6]
