Victor Jara

Probably the most internationally renowned musician to be related to the progressive movement in Chile in the 1970s, Victor Jara was a guitarist and singer/songwriter. Some of his most celebrated songs include Te Recuerdo Amanda, A Desalambrar, Puerto Montt. Shortly after the September 11 coup in 1973 he was arrested and detained along with thousands of others in the national football stadium, and murdered on orders of the new ruling Junta.
