Typed link

A typed link is a hypertext link that has (usually at the link anchor) a data type attached to indicate the purpose of the link. It may be a simple mechanical purpose such as indicating the previous version in the page history or what links here.
Tags can all be considered to be typed links to categories. That is, to put something in a category is to create a link of type "tagged with this tag" or "belongs in this category".
If the type expresses a complex relationship that only a human would understand and be able to fully interpret, it is called a "semantic link" instead. Not all typed links are semantic links, although some literature confuses the two.
