Tidal wave

From dKosopedia

A tidal wave is a big wave caused by an earthquake on the sea floor.

They are very destructive, doing often more damage than hurricanes or volcanoes.

The major Asian tsunami of December 2004 caused tremendous loss of life.

As with hurricanes, the seriousness of a tidal wave can be greatly increased by loss of coastal wetlands, barrier islands, rising sea levels and higher water surface temperatures and air temperatures. While the tidal wave is not increased in ferocity by temperature, the rot, mold and disease that spreads in its aftermath tends to be much worse if the temperatures are so high that bacteria can spread immediately after the wave recedes.
