Talk:Speakers
From dKosopedia
- Carl Nyberg: I'm not opposed to "big name" speakers, but I would rather have people that increase my understanding of the world than hear Al Franken be witty or some Democratic pol mouth the usual plattitudes. This is the dKos community's convention. There's plenty of brainpower and ideas in the community. I'm more interested in hearing these people and speaking to them than bringing some insider to Chicago to tell us stuff we've already heard.
- Plemeljr: Agreed. But I think there has to be some seeds and fertilizer in order for debate and discussion to flower. Perhaps people like Lakoff would be a good choice. Someone that can help us move the party forward. I like Franken, but what can he say. Dean is good as the "Reform" guy, and cheerleader, but that might be what we need as a kickoff. But I think it might be shooting ourselves in the foot if we limit ourselves to people within dKos. I want to learn (in order to win) and there are people outside dKos (such as the MyDD people) which share the same ideas but have expertse. I think a mix of offerings will be the best way to make our time effective. So one big name speaker, some panel discussions, some workshops, some lectures, some informal gatherings. This combination will be the kay. So I guess I am in favor of see who is out there who can light up our intellectual and emotional furnaces at this convention (man so many metaphors so late at night).
