Spence Pryor is a white collar criminal defense lawyer and former Republican political operative with strong ties to the Bush Administration and ambitions to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.
After law school, Pryor joined the 2000 Presidential campaign of George W. Bush, serving as state executive director for Georgia. After the election, Pryor was dispatched to Seminole County in Florida where he "monitored" counting and recounting of overseas absentee ballots.
For his work in Georgia and Florida, Pryor was rewarded with two Presidential appointments, first in the U.S. Justice Department as an aide to Larry Thompson and then as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
In 2005, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue issued a press release stating that Pryor had taken a job with his staff as executive counsel. Days later, this press release was withdrawn and it was announced that Pryor was instead joining the White House staff as an aide to Karl Rove. Weeks later, Pryor resigned from the White House to join the law firm of Alston & Bird in Atlanta.
Pryor is a member of several elite conservative organizations, including the Capital Club, The 159 Group, the Federalist Society and the Gridiron Secret Society.
Pryor is a graduate of the University of Georgia and University of Georgia School of Law. In 1996, between college and law school, Pryor worked as a volunteer on the Presidential campaign of Bob Dole and as a campaign aide for David Shafer, then running for Secretary of State of Georgia.
Pryor is the grandson of the late Thomas O. Marshall, former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.
