Social issues

Social issues include a range of often divisive political issues involving domestic policy issues that are cast as non-economic." In reality all issues have economic implications, however indirect. Many social issues elicit strong emotions on both sides by conservatives are masters at exploiting emotional, essentially non-rational responses to issues involving sex and power in the family.

Examples include:

Conservative pundits (especially Bill O'Reilly) like to refer to these issues as "culture war" issues.

Some political scientists theorize that divisive social issues play to the advantage of Republicans in elections. This theory holds that Republicans, unable to sell their economic or foreign policy positions to a majority of voters, turn instead to these "culture war" issues.
