Sally Lieber
From dKosopedia
Sally Lieber is the California State Assemblywoman for the 22nd District. She was first elected in 2002. In September 2006 she was elected Speaker Pro Tem.
Lieber won national attention with her January 20, 2007 announcment that she would introduce legislation banning spanking. She stated that her bill would make spanking, hitting and slapping a child under 4 years old a misdemeanor, under which adults would face penalties of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. For decades family issues have been used by conservative Republicans, who have exploited anxieties about sexuality, reproduction and parental, expecially paternal, authority to win votes. Such legislation is a chalenge to the Republican family values anxiety machine.
