Salafism

From dKosopedia

Salafism is a kind of fundamentalist Islam, one that seeks to return to the practices of the very first generations that practiced the Muslim faith. A version of this belief has been adopted by Muslims seeking the use of violent means to establish a totalitarian rule over all territories that they regard as Islamic (including the areas of Europe under Muslim control during the Middle Ages).

the ideology of a large body of extremist Muslims. Maulana Maududi] advocated restoration of the ancient Salaf group that sought to serve as the vanguard for establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. God's rule should be expressed on earth through the power of the state. There should be a Califate to rule over all of Islam.

This ideology is strongly operative in present-day Iran, but it is also the ideology behind al-Qaida, and it is the ideology that supports and promulgates the idea that the United States and its minions have attacked Islam, and through attacking Islam have attacked God. Therefore, they argue, the Koran teaches that all Muslims must rally to the defense of Islam. Naturally they represent themselves as the annointed leadership for the struggle of the faithful against the satanic forces of the infidels.
