Roland D. Sagum, III is passionate about the health and welfare of the people of west Kauai and Niihau. Since he lives and works in West Kauai, Roland believes that he is the best qualified to represent the people of Kauai and Niihau in the State Legislature. He comes from a long line of active Democrats that have worked hard to improve the quality of life of our people. Roland has been personally involved with Kauai’s people, lifestyles and changes as a resident, and throughout his professional career.

Roland is currently the Vice President of Kikiaola Land Company, LTD. in Waimea, Kauai. In this capacity he strategically budgets, plans, prioritizes and negotiates all planning and development efforts for Kikiaola Land Company’s 600 acre property while maintaining excellent community, government and corporate relations. Roland also hold principal position with Applied Planning Systems which is a land use consulting firm that provides technical support in the procurement of discretionary entitlements, urban & land use planning, and environmental studies, to public and private entities. Roland has also had a long career in public service, as deputy planning commissioner under mayors Tony Kunimura and JoAnn Yukimura from 1987 to 1992, as well as he has been a member of various boards and commissions.

He continues to voluntarily serve on numerous committees and boards representing Kauai’s communities’ interests. Roland is presently a member of the Management Advisory Committee & the Citizen Advisory Board for the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital; the Kauai County Civil Service Commission; Marine and Coastal Zone Management Advocacy Council; Director to the Kai Holo Canoe Club; and a Trustee to the Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Roland resides in Kalaheo, Kauai. In his spare time, Roland enjoys diving and visiting the gym. His three children were raised on Kauai. Dana, 20 who works and attends college on Oahu; Nicole 19 who is attending her first year college in Salamanca, Spain; and Matthew, 15 who is a champion swimmer at La Quinta High School in Palm Springs, California. Roland’s extended family member, who also resides in Lawai, is “Babe”. She has been a part of the family for the past 10 years. (Babe is the family’s pet pig.) [1]
