Robert Dvorsky

Bob Dvorsky (D) is serving his fourth term in the Iowa State Senate. He represents Senate District 15, which includes Johnson and Linn counties. He also served seven years as a State Representative in the Iowa State House.

His wealth of legislative experience makes him a respected and knowledgeable leader. Dvorsky is Democratic President Pro Tempore of the Iowa Senate. He is also Co-Chair of the Appropriations Committee and serves on the Education, Judiciary, and Rules and Administration committees. In addition, Dvorsky is a member of the Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee.

An active community member, Dvorsky is a member of the Iowa Corrections Association, Johnson County Historical Society, and Friends of the Coralville Public Library. He served on the Coralville City Council for six years, and he was on the board of the Iowa City Area Development Group, Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Johnson County Council of Governments, and the Johnson County Democratic Central Committee.

He is a job developer for the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services, and a member of AFSCME. Born in Burlington in 1948, Dvorsky graduated from Iowa City’s University High School and earned his Bachelors of Science and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Iowa.

He supported Richard (Dick) Gephardt in the 2004 Iowa caucus. In April of 2006, he was arrested for DUI, after leaving a fundraiser in Des Moines.

Senator Dvorsky is married to Sue, who has taught in public schools for 27 years. They have two daughters, and are parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.
