Robert Carroll has won election to represent East Maui on the Maui County Council in the 2010 elections. Carroll had previously been elected to the East Maui seat on the Maui County Council, 2004-2006. Robert Carroll is a Democrat, however, the Maui County Council election is nonpartisan.
Carroll, according to a Haleakala Times article dated September 15, 2004, "... grew up in Hana, and like many young Mauians in the 1960’s, he was obliged to leave the island for a time to look for work. Returning home, he spent 15 years with Hawaiian Telephone Company and worked for a decade as a commercial fisherman. Carroll has a deserved reputation for accessibility and fairness and a 30-year record of community service in the Hana schools and community. His leadership skills have been honed as president of the Hana School Advisory Council, Hana Community Association and numerous other groups. He has also served four years on the Planning Commission (one year as Chairman.) Carroll has spent considerable time over the years lobbying the state legislature for various issues connected to Maui County."
