Talk:Red Green Blue Wings

Another slightly different concept is Political Compass. Perhaps this is worth exploring elsewhere, but there is a lot of value in breaking out of the simple right-left dichotomy.
I'll have to politely dissent I am afraid.
1- The left right distinction has it's problems but that doesn't mean we should replace one substandard criteria with another. This distinction is based on
2- The left right distinction actually has more merit than you grant it. It has amazing predictive power ( if you know that someone is fervently pro environment you know that they also almost certainly support abortion.) Thousands of thinkers have carefully considered it and their results are of great value. My own belief is that the left right distinction maps attitudes towards power, those on the right support those currently powerful ( Rich, white, male, Christian, middle aged, heterosexuals) while those on the left aim to even out power distribution.
3- Your mapping fails to acknowledge that Green and Blue are closer than Blue and Red or Green and red.
4- Your claim that blue is situational is deeply POV. I'm "Blue" and yet all my political beliefs can be seen as flowing from a single sentence "Power should be distributed as evenly as possible throughout society and where even distribution is not possible checks and balances should be in place, the powerful should not abuse their position and gain advantage at the disadvantage of the weak.". I feel this implies almost all my political positions from those on Gay rights and racial equality to those on the environment ( current generations should not abuse their position and exploit natural resources at the expense of weaker future generations). Hence for good or ill I don't think I decide my political positions on a case by case basis any more than the right does.* Also I am not skeptical of morality or a moral relativist or any of those things the republicans have framed the left to be in the slightest. I passionately
5- Your position is too respectful to moderates. To many people in politics assume it is somehow inherently good to be in the centre yet being in the "centre" today would mean voting for the torture bill because that's what average people seem to increasingly endorse these days.
