Talk:Reagan won the cold war

From dKosopedia

  • Lestatdelc 18:59, 29 Jul 2005 (PDT) Agreed. I would also note, that mentioning unions like the robust trade movement Solidarity in Poland had a huge, and profound affect in mobilizing public dissent and outlet for those nations to first oppose, then undercut and collapse their government. This in turn was a catalyst for other Soviet satellite countries to brake with the USSR, greatly accelerating the inevitable economic/political collapse from within.
  • DRolfe 22:09, 30 Jul 2005 (PDT) - Right, I want to agree with Lemuel, This particular article starts out strong but really veers off for the worst when he starts insinuating that Reagan was a kook relying on the IMF to extend the Cold War while at the same time the TV generation was watching him demand Gorby to 'tear down this wall' [1]. I'm too young (~30) to have any great historical perspective on Reagan's presidency; That's why I asked the question. In my recollection we didn't win the cold war, but it didn't seem like Reagan was doing anything overt to prolong it.
