Talk:Plutocracy

From dKosopedia

--Pyrrho 22:34, 23 May 2004 (PDT) jeff,

I think we should use the DL, DT, and DD tags for definitions... leave the rendering of the elements to the CSS stylesheet (that is, I like your bold look for the definition of plutocracy, but I think you need to not supply that... use the "definition" related tag, and we can change the CSS to make the DT portion appropriately bold... But I'll style= the DT to look bold for now).

I had a whole explanation regarding why it's better to edit the thing in place than make an alternate version. I can think of many good reasons to make an alternate... but it's harder on the wiki style, because it creates a competition between versions rather than a collaboration (even though it feels more polite to not hack someone elses stuff... the wiki requires us all to become like editors and have a distinct disregard for the sanctity of another text... but also while learning to preserve if not the words, the conceptual intent of the other authors).

I saw the two as compatible, but I could see how it was hard to edit yours into mine. I decided to delete my comments here (oops, just rewrote them :) in favor of taking a pass at combining the two. The result is too padded. It could use honing down. But in such a step I'd rather combine something with more or less all the sentences of both. I think part of your point might have been to have a more terse version. Perhaps that idea is something to discuss on this page.

I see this page as a definition first, but then also a starting point for progressive take on the the concept of plutocracy.

wegerje 11:07, 25 May 2004 (PDT) I agree about the merging vs alternate. But I was stuck at some basic diferences in both style and philosophy. I will now attempt to hack at what you've merged.

wegerje 11:31, 25 May 2004 (PDT) Ok I tried. The more I did the less I liked it. I think you are right. First a simple uncluttered definition (maybe taken from another source.) Then some commentary type elements. We may have to do this one sentence at a time. Each earlier sentence and paragraph a shorter, leaner, denser more concise version of later fleshed out sentences and paragrahs.

wegerje 11:48, 25 May 2004 (PDT) I think we need a list of points we wish to make, and then prioritize them, and decide where there may be differences, then attempt to convert the list into an article? I'm out of time now that I have that idea. I will attempt to distill a list of ideas on my next visit. Jeff

--Pyrrho 14:50, 26 May 2004 (PDT) Jeff, I like your idea... I think it's going in the right direction but agree it does need to go somewhere else from here... otoh, I like the definition!
