Peter Buckley a Democrat, is the Oregon State Representative for Oregon State House District 5 which covers Ashland, Phoenix, Talent, Jacksonville, Ruch and the Applegate—in the 73rd Legislative session.

Background
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Santa Clara, Peter has been active in politics and service since childhood. With a father who was a veteran in WWII and Korea, and a mother who worked with Developmentally Disabled children, Peter describes his upbringing as “all about social justice and service. The only question was ‘how are you going to serve.”
For more than 20 years, Peter has applied this notion of public service to non-profit management. He turned the financially struggling Ferndale Repertory Theatre into a successful local art center, adding staff and health care benefits for the first time in the organization’s history. He worked with federal, state, county and city elected officials to improve cultural tourism and create jobs in Humboldt County as an extension of his role for Dell’Arte International. And he helped to develop and implement the second phase of the nationally recognized Arts Plus programs for K-8 classrooms through work with the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC.
Peter's community service has focused on helping organizations raise funds to provide more services or programs for their clients. In this capacity, he’s worked with the Boys & Girls Club, Hospice of Humboldt, KEET-TV, (PBS), KHSU (NPR), Humboldt Senior Center, Arcata Children's Center, Pacific Art Center, the Ink People and Head Start.
A 15 year veteran political commentator for NPR affiliates, Peter has experience listening to people, analyzing events and discussing important issues in a down to earth, everyday way.
Peter moved to Ashland in 1997 from Northern California to raise his three sons with his wife, Joan Langley, the Education Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Peter enjoys spending time with family and friends, and running with his dog Lucy at least three times a week. Friends describe Peter as an "optimist with realistic expectations" and someone whose fresh ideas and dynamic attitude can help turn things around in Salem.
He was elected to the Oregon Legislature in 2004.
