Open configuration

From dKosopedia

See let.sysops.be: open configuration.

Open configuration extends open content and free software principles to sysoping and provisioning and attempts to remove arbitrary controls of web host and email hosts over users and user group freedom of association.

Effectively it commodifies access to bandwidth and common services so that major providers like yahoo, google, Microsoft, and others known to compromise with oppressive or snoopy governments will be subject to mass departures of users for other online hosts. It also helps ensure that small hosts without massive legal resources or sophisticated administrators will not be worth bullying to deprive unpopular users or groups of services, since they will be easily able to switch elsewhere without pain or interruption of service. Including going to jurisdictions where bullies have no power! See libel chill.
