Incumbents Bob Taft (R) and Bruce Johnson (R) are not eligible to seek re-election.

- Ken Blackwell (R). Secretary of State, ex-State Treasurer, ex-Cincinnati Mayor and ex-U.S. Ambassador. /Thomas Raga (R)

Blackwell only got 56% against fellow Republican Jim Petro.
Strickland is the front-runner on the Democratic side. His background as a minister gives him crossover appeal. He is a popular and well-known legislator and an excellent campaigner.
