National Empowerment Television

From dKosopedia

Conservative Republican oriented cable television network founded by Paul Weyrich and sponsored by his Free Congress Foundation. During the mid-90s, broadcast Newt Gingrich's controversial college course, "Renewing American Civilization" and his talk show (co-hosted by then-Progress & Freedom Foundation Senior Fellow Heather Higgins).

Famously organized a February 1995 $50,000-per-couple fundraising dinner, hosted by Arianna Huffington. In attendance were GOPAC donors David Brennan (an attorney from Akron, OH and $50,500 donor) and Frank Hanna (of Atlanta, owner of HBR Capital, Progress & Freedom Foundation board member and a $40,000 donor) and listed as "possibly attending" was Jesse Thompson (developer from Charlotte and $200,000 donor). Other contributors to the dinner included Carlo Morelli or Richmond, TX, a racehorse breeder and owner of Glenmore Farms, Richard M. Larry, treasurer of the Carthage Foundation, and Richard Hines, an Ohio business consultant. Attending the dinner but not contributing were Weyrich, NET's VP Burton yale Pines, Charleston, S.C. business exec William Gilliam and author Marvin Olasky. -- Washington Post, Feb. 8, 1995.
