New York Times -- Pentagon to Place U.S. Ballot on Internet for Overseas Voters
The Federal write-in ballot is now posted on myballot.mil
- "...the Pentagon's use of a private contractor in establishing an e-mail and fax balloting system, and the recent launching of an Internet ballot-retrieval system that is not open to most civilians abroad.
- Pentagon officials said that this retrieval system - available through the Web site, myballot.mil - could include only the military because they were using a Pentagon database to verify voter identities. But Mr. Richard, the Pentagon spokesman, acknowledged recently that some civilians working for military contractors could use the system because they are included in the verification database.
- Mr. Richard said the Pentagon could not determine how many civilian contractors would be able to use the system. Ten states have agreed to make their ballots accessible through myballot.mil, while 23 have declined to participate citing security and other concerns."
