Michael Patrick Flanagan

From dKosopedia

Michael Patrick Flanagan, a member of the Republican Party, represented the Illinois 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives for one term. The previous representative of the 5th District was Democrat Dan Rostenkowski, former powerhouse chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rostenkowski had held the seat for 36 years. Rostenkowski's ethical problems paved the way for the 1994 election of Republican Michael Patrick Flanagan.

But Flanagan turned out to be a one-term wonder. He was a loyal soldier of the House GOP revolution, supporting the planks of the Contract With America.

In 1996, Flanagan was defeated by Democrat Rod Blagojevich for that 5th District seat. Blagojevich had portrayed himself as a moderate and Flanagan as an extremist.
