Michael Coleman

Michael B. Coleman (D). Popular Mayor of Columbus, Ohio since 2000. He is the Chair of the DLC's Local Elected Officials Network.

Political Background

In 2003, Coleman faced only a write-in challenger and was reelected to a second term with 95% of the vote. His second term as mayor expires in 2007. Prior to being elected mayor he served as President of the Columbus City Council and has a law degree from the University of Dayton. Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and 15th largest in the nation. Coleman is the first Democrat who has announced his intention to run for the open gubernatorial seat in 2006.
