Michael Bond
From dKosopedia
Michael Bond is a candidate for Atlanta City Council President.
From "Four names to ponder if you live in Atlanta" by Colin Campbell in the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
He's the son of Julian Bond, the civil rights leader, and he's a leader of the local NAACP who also works with a company that makes electronic phone calls for candidates and nonprofit groups. Bond was a council ally of former Mayor Bill Campbell. He almost beat Woolard in the last election for council president. He has little executive experience. In person, Bond is genial, reasonable and articulate, and he claims "a very diverse" following. He's divorced; his three children live with him.
From "Bond gets 2nd shot at council presidency" by Ernie Suggs in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Bond is seeking the council presidency at a crucial time in Atlanta's health and development. The city is weighed down by $3.2 billion worth of sewer repair and upgrade bills, and the council has voted to put a 1 percent sales tax on the July 20 ballot that would raise Atlanta's sales tax to a state-high 8 percent. The funds collected under the tax increase would go toward repairing sewers. The alternative would be skyrocketing water and sewer bills.
"I want to focus on the water and sewer issues that we all grapple with," Bond said. "The way it affects us as a city permeates everything."
Bond said he also wants to hire at least 200 officers for the Police Department and to improve parks by creating more conservatories and linear parks that could encompass whole avenues.
"The City Council president should be the citizen's biggest advocate to make sure that every citizen's needs and desires are added to the debate," Bond said. "The position, now more than ever, needs a coalition builder. Someone who can bring people of different cultures, classes and ideas together."
