Mary Jane Garcia, a New Mexico Democratic State Senator representing the 36th senatorial district, has been reelected to the senate in the 2004 election cycle. Sen. Garcia has been a senator since first being elected to that seat in 1988. The 35th senatorial district includes Dona Ana County and the city of Las Cruces. Currently Sen. Garcia is the Majority Whip for the Senate.
Senator Garcia holds an M.A. in anthropology from New Mexico State University.
