Talk:Main Page with Ideologies and Daily Article

From dKosopedia

--Centerfielder 07:57, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) 30% seems a bit narrow to me; let's play with it a bit...

--Pyrrho 17:19, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) whichevers... 50% seemed too much... as for the fine detail between 50% and 30%... you are the table god... Memetank got reformated more or less inspired by your front page table... and if this feel permeates our "main" and "submain" pages... we're all set with something very professional and smooth looking, imho. So feel free to fiddle with the numbers... I'll chime in and wiki of course, but I am learning to trust your html aesthetic sensibility.

--Centerfielder 08:22, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) I think a bit wider Featured Article section works, but not too long else the left hand side gets thin. Added Mediawiki:Previous Featured Articles

--Ohwilleke 14:40 18 Jun 04 (MDT) Where did the ideologies go?

--Centerfielder 13:48, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) Not sure where to put them now... Under Reference for sure, but it doesn't really rate a bullet. I think Ideologies is in a class of topics that probably does rate a bullet point and this sorta needs to be hashed out - Philosophies or Theories or something... Economic Theories... Political Philosophies... are the latter different than Ideologies, etc... oh, and Religion may fall under this umbrella as well...

(1) How about "History" instead of "Events"... and similarly I think Index, which is what I've been suggesting in talk:Main Page needs to be "History Indexes" rather than Event_Index... and one more thing ( real quick :) is that this index page should be indirect, that is, a page full of links to other indexes... that is there are alternate indexes to present "History of Activism" "Union History Index" "History of War Index"... (oops final triviality... I like "indexes" but "indeces" is also a spelling...)

--Centerfielder 18:42, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) ok, put it in and see what it looks like. The problem with any index page is keeping it consistent and up to date, especially with somethin like a wiki, I would think. Go ahead and do it and see what it looks like. We can add an "Indicies" or "Indexes" link to the current main page and see how people start filling it in.

(2) I'm starting to settle on at least my own preference/vote regarding Ideologies... I think it goes in the list currently titled "People", and maybe that should be "People and Profiles" because we already have stuff besides people there... it's sort of profiles, with profiles of people, aka the "bio page" being maybe the most significant member. yes/no?

--Centerfielder 18:42, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) I still think there's some more general category it fits into, but for now I'm not sure how it should be structured.

PS: a little litmus test based on my own interest is the question of "where would an article about the History of People's Park in Berkeley go?" It's not an event but a series of events. In a way it's like an index to related events... but more importantly it's probably listed in an index on the history of progressive activism. Similarly, how would the Rail Strikes of the late 1800's fit? It's history of unionism mixed with some events that were huge historic events that are somewhat ignored in popular history.

--Centerfielder 18:42, 18 Jun 2004 (PDT) be aware that the new Mediawiki software has some timeline stuff built into it, though I'm not sure how it works yet.
