Lynn Rivers

From dKosopedia

Lynn Nancy Rivers was born on December 19, 1956 in AuGres, Michigan. She served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1993 to 1994, when she was elected to Congress serving Michigan's 13th District around Ann Arbor and the blue collar areas of southeast Michigan.

Rivers was a very liberal and progressive voice in Congress, perhaps one of the most liberal members of her state's congressional delegation (along with Sander Levin and John Conyers). In 2002 her district was combined with that of fellow Democrat John Dingell in a Republican redistricting plan. She chose to contest a primary with the much more senior Dingell (who had served in Congress since late 1955), and lost strongly. Dingell's seniority and old-fashioned blue collar voting record won out over Rivers' "new liberal" style, and Dingell went on to win in landslides in 2002 and 2004.
