Rev. Lou Sheldon, is the chairman and founder of the Traditional Values Coalition (TVC), an extreme right-wing evengelical group, which describes itself as the largest church-lobby in the United States.
TVC's mission is to “to restore America’s cultural heritage” by opposing gay and lesbian civil rights, reproductive freedom, the teaching of evolution in public schools, and sex education curricula that does not stress abstinence to the exclusion of information on birth control and disease prevention, and promotes prayer in schools.
Anti-gay obsessions has consumed Sheldon since 1972, when as a Presbyterian pastor he learned that a civil rights group had introduced what he calls the "Homosexual Manifesto" at the Democratic National Convention that year.
Lou Sheldon and Andrea Sheldon Lafferty, his daughter who is also the TVC's Executive Director. have appeared on many mainstream news programs to discuss the TVC perspective on social issues.
