Lorraine Akiba

Lorraine H. Akiba, a partner in the Honolulu law firm McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon, was chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Hawaii and former director of the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Akiba served as national committeewoman in 2000 and was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention. In 1995, Cayetano appointed her director of the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Before working for the state, Akiba was a partner in the law firm of Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright and headed its environmental practice. She graduated from the University of California-Berkeley and Hastings College of law and Punahou.
Akiba was elected to head the Hawaii Democratic Party in April 2001 and served until February 2003 when she resigned. Akiba replaced Walter Heen after he had resigned. Mark Forman briefly succeded Akiba as interim chair of the Democratic Party until Alex Santiago was elected.
