Talk:Legislation currently in Congress
From dKosopedia
I added back the previous columns to the Senate bills. I think the thomas update is great, but in my opinion the thomas status should not be used on this page, but rather in the individual pages for each bill. The problem with using the thomas status update here is that it is simply too long. If the objective is to present a table that is easily read, then including the thomas status will just make it too difficult to read. Please also notice that the thomas status is using the "long title" of the bill, which is not very useful. The short title will be listed either in the Bill Summary and Status page, or the floor statement introducing the bill (usually both, I think). In most discussions of a bill, either the short title or (very occasionally, in my experience) the bill number will be used to reference the bill. The long title is never used. Therefore it seems more useful for summary purposes, to use the short title whenever possible, in place of the long title. (Btw is there another page where a discussion of this approach is happening?) --MH in PA 08:32, 21 January 2007 (PST)
Ideas
I think it's way too much to list every bill. Open Congress is a better source for that. What we should be doing is listing important pieces of legislation that fall into particular categories. For example:
