Land reform

Land reform refers to the redistribution of land ownership by the state. Such policies may be capitalist or socialist in nature. Major historical examples of capitalist land reforms include the redistribution of Church owned lands by Henry VIII in England and under the French Revolution in France, the U.S. Federal government's redistribution of land in Puerto Rico from owners to producers, and the U.S. supervised redistributions of land from owners to producers in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan folowing the Second World War. Major historical examples of socialist land reforms include the redistributions of land in Mexico after its 1910 revolution, Russia after its 1917 revolution and China after its 1949 revolution.
