User talk:Joshua

From dKosopedia

Welcome, Joshua (with or without the "Z"). I saw your proposal to bring over the wikipedia ID page. We've had some back and forth here on the propriety of the wholesale copying of wikipedia articles, and it's still a bit in a state of flux. As you say, the FDL license allows it (though I'm not sure about the necessity of attribution), but we're frowning on it for a couple of reasons. First, and most important, is consistency. An imported article can get out-of-synch (i.e., out-of-date, incorrect) pretty easily. Second is ethics, though proper attribution ameliorates this somewhat. I think what we try to do (or at least what I try do) is provide content from a progressive viewpoint, but refer to wikipedia often.

For ID, though, that may not work, given the amount of pro-ID content. Then you just end up rebutting something on a page that's not on this site. In this case, maybe what you suggest is correct. Take the wikipedia ID page, remove the goofy bits, properly refer back to the wikipedia page as a primary source, and not expect that the wikipedia and dKp pages will be in synch from that point on, as our version will evolve differently. If this is what you intend then it makes a lot of sense. Perhaps dKosopedia need a template of some sort that rests at the bottom of pages that are originally sourced from wikipedia that states such and refers back to the original wikipedia page. -- Centerfielder 06:24, 23 February 2007 (PST)

Joshua, account creation should be enabled in about a month, but if you like I can create an account for your friend. Give me a username and if your email is set up I can email you the particulars. --Centerfielder 08:08, 30 July 2007 (PDT)
