More attention needs to be paid to JFK's rhetorical skills. He left Nixon choking dust in their TV debate on defense policy because his statements were cogent, sharp, and backed by evidence. The opposite kind of debating technique is exemplified by Dole, who would little more than repeat "tax and spend liberals" and other such slogans in an angry voice.
