John M. Mizuno, a Democrat, won elections in 2006 to represent the 30th Representative seat in the Hawaii State Legislature. The 30th district includes the Kamehameha Heights, Kalihi Valley and Fort Shafter areas of the island of Oahu, Hawai'i.
Hawaii State Representative John M. Mizuno was recognized as the "Legislator of the Year" in his first year in office. This was the first time a first year lawmaker has ever been recognized as the Top Legislator in Hawaii history. In his second term, Rep. John Mizuno was appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Human Services Committee. As Chair of the Human Services Committee, Representative Mizuno has oversight over the second largest department in the state, with the second largest budget in Hawaii.
In 2008, Hawaii State Representative John M. Mizuno graduated from the CSG-WEST Academy, known as the "Top Gun" Legislative academy in the nation. The academy selects the top 40 legislators from the nation, with a goal to train them to become our nation's leaders.
State Representative John Mizuno also serves as the Co-Chair of the Hawaii State Legislature's Keiki (Children) Caucus and Kupuna (Elderly) Caucus.
Representative Mizuno is also a Majority Policy Advisory Member.
