Joey Manahan, a Democrat, represents the 29th Representative District (Kalihi, Sand Island) in the Hawaii State Legislature, first elected in 2006.

- "My name is Joey Manahan, and I was born in Makati, Philippines. My mother and I immigrated to the United States in search of a better life through education. I graduated from the University of Hawaii (UH) with a degree in mass communications and began my service in government in 2001. I gained experience by serving as a legislative assistant in both the Hawaii State House of Representatives and the Hawaii State Senate. In 2004, I worked as an election specialist for the State of Hawaii Office of Elections. Most recently, I was appointed by the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu to the Neighborhood Commission Office, where I assisted in the administration of the Kalihi-Palama, Kalihi Valley and Liliha Neighborhood Boards. I have been active in such organizations as the Filipino Centennial Celebration Commission, the Hawaii Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA). I am 35 and married to Maryann Santos Manahan." [1]
