Chair of the department at MSU; writes on Bacon and the other early moderns. Author of Science, Faith and Politics: Francis Bacon and the Utopian Roots of the Modern Age and Francis Bacon's History of the Reign of King Henry the Seventh: A New Edition and Interpretation, and currently working on From Heidegger to Bacon: Philosophy, Technology and Politics, and The Political Thought of Benjamin Franklin.
