Jeff Chapman

From dKosopedia

Jeff Chapman is a Republican state senator from Brunswick, Georgia and a former member of the Glynn County Board of Commissioners.

Chapman was elected to the State Senate in 2004 and quickly emerged as a leading proponent of eminent domain reform. He proposed legislation in 2005, before the Kelo decision, that would have prevented government agencies from using eminent domain powers on behalf of private developers.

Chapman held hearings all over the state in 2005 to draw attention to eminent domain abuses, but after the Kelo decision, was benched by his party as the chief spokesman for this issue. In the 2006 session, Chapman opposed eminent domain legislation by Governor Sonny Perdue, a fellow Republican, saying that it was too weak.

Chapman angered local constitutents by blocking creation of a City of St. Simon's Island and was expected to draw an opponent in 2006. However, he is running unopposed.
