Ikaika Hussey

Ikaika Hussey, a political-science graduate student at UH-Manoa, was a leader in a week-long sit-in by the Stop UARC/Save UH coalition at interim University of Hawaii President David McClain's office in May 2005. The sit-in focused attention on a proposal for a Navy-funded research center (see UH UARC). [1]

From the Honolulu Advertiser, May 13, 2006 article entitled, Lingle lobbies for Akaka Bill:

Ikaika Hussey of Hui Pu, an umbrella group of organizations that oppose the Akaka bill, said the measure is not enough.

"Federal recognition is a way that the United States has maintained hegemony over indigenous peoples for the last two centuries, and they've used federal recognition to legitimate and institutionalize the genocidal actions of the U.S.," Hussey said.
